Our Story

We all have memories from our childhood, mine are of my mother’s haberdashery shop, collecting pieces of fabrics from my Nanna and mother’s lives and sewing creations using an antique sewing machine or by hand with what I had collected. This is where my love of fabrics and handkerchiefs (hankies) began. So in 2010 I started Boutique Heidi.

My mother has always given handkerchiefs to me since I was very young and I still have them, her mother gave them to her and her sisters, they have been a constant gift within our family.

I love handkerchiefs, a strong vibrant fabric you love that wouldn’t suit a large garment (or you wouldn’t wear!) can be used as a handkerchief. They are a small piece of fabric that say so many things; a handkerchief can be simple, elaborate, stylish, classic, funky - it can be a reflection of your personality or complete an outfit. They are an essential accessory, whenever you see someone with a nice hankie there is a sense of style.

I never leave home without one! H x

More than a piece of Fabric

Our Handkerchiefs are made Ballarat, Victoria by a team of local women 👩👩👩👩, who sew, iron, package and personalise our Handkerchiefs. In fact, when you buy handkerchiefs from us, you're not only getting Australia's best are supporting a local community of women and their families.

Many of our team worked at the amazing Lucas & Co, a family owned textile company that began in Ballarat, Victoria in 1888. The iconic House of Lucas employed 1000s of locals, they were famous for their attention to detail and their quality. I knew these inspiration women had to be apart of our team to create the most beautiful handkerchiefs in Australia.

We take a lot of time to select the designs and plan our range, we choose fabrics that will complement each other and appeal to our customers. Our handkerchief design and sizes have been created after years of trialing; we have 3 sizes - small, medium and large featuring a 1cm hem.

Our packaging is designed by my husband and printed in Ballarat. It is important our packaging is environmentally friendly; we want you to recycle or re-use it. We use our fabric remnants to tie a bow around your order often matching your Handkerchiefs

Our handkerchiefs really are the best. They are made and packaged with love, for you and the planet
